When we moved to Arizona roughly 25 years ago, our youngest attended a (public) elementary school in Buckeye in which all the students had to show proficiency at desert survival. At year's end, they had to go on a trip to a barren "park," assemble and run their own working solar still, have their "automobile survival kit" inspected, successfully identify dangerous predators, and more.
You may not believe it, Margie - but you still can. It's a bit harder by yourself, but much easier if you can find a small group of 'like minded' individuals to do these basic exercises with. Be sure to discuss the results amongst yourselves, including critiques and/or suggestions for how to better understand/implement the ideas for those that are 'slow to catch on'. The Freedom you save may be your own!
Outstanding suggestions. I think you could expound on these foundational concepts and write an entire book for those parents who home-school. The same book could be pitched to school boards across the country that are receptive, and hopefully in time, more and more will become receptive, if were can replace woke activists with common sense people in elections to come. I bet you would have an Amazon best seller.
